Cherokee National Forest consists of the Northern District and the Southern District which are separated by The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Recreation opportunities in the forest are far too numerous to cover here so please check out the website: https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/cherokee/
We are home to many rivers and lakes. The French Broad and Holston rivers join just east of Knoxville to form the Tennessee River. The Tennessee is 652 miles long and has nine TVA dams and locks along the way. Fort Loudon and Watts Bar lakes are on the Tennessee to the west and south of the Knoxville area. More lakes east and north of Knoxville include Douglas, Cherokee and Norris. Water sports include river kayaking, fishing, skiing and just relaxing on a pontoon boat soaking up the sun!
